“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10

God’s encouragement…

Bumblebees provide a wonderful view of God’s wisdom and plan for the good works that He prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them!

Bumblebees do precisely what God created them to. They visit blossoms and carry nectar and pollen back to their colony. They visit blossoms that are beautiful to look at. God paints the world with these. They visit blossoms on fruit and vegetable plants. God feeds the multitudes with the produce from these. Bumblebees, with their big and fuzzy bodies, are uniquely equipped pollinators. In addition to visiting single blossoms, they also perform “buzz pollination.” This is a specific type of vibration with their wings, and it is a highly effective way to release pollen from flowers.

God teaches us about Himself—and our good works—through His bees. Consider that we know bees primarily for their role as global pollinators, not their created role as caretakers of their colony. Yet, as they do what they were created to do, this other role is accomplished at the same time. This provides us a glimpse into what God can accomplish as we take care of our “colony,” made up of our family, friends and neighbors.

Based on the lesson of the bees, we see that we can trust we’ve been shaped perfectly to do the good works God prepared beforehand. Also, that we’ve been equipped to carry them out. As we endeavor to nurture our colony, we are encouraged to remember beautiful things. They provide opportunities for us to give delight and bring joy as part of our good works. When we trust in God’s wisdom and rejoice in His plan, we can be certain His Kingdom will benefit in a multitude of ways. God doesn’t deem it necessary for us to know the full impact of the good works we walk in, however, His bees attest to a potential that extends far beyond what we can see!
