“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Romans 12:2
God’s encouragement…
I am mesmerized by cloudscapes and the way they change moment-by-moment. Clouds, untethered from the earth and subject to the dictates of the wind, illuminated by a source outside themselves, are breathtaking in their beauty. People stop what they are doing, look up, and marvel at the transformation as it unfolds.
Belonging to Jesus calls us to be like clouds. We, too, are called to be untethered—from earthly ways and desires, subject to the will of God and illuminated by a source outside us that transforms us—His light. Unlike clouds, we are created in the image of God and endowed with free will. We make choices about where we go and what we do. Yet to be transformed by God as freely as the clouds are by the wind and sun would be amazing!
Jesus began our transformation by making us heirs of His Kingdom when He became our personal Savior. Our eternity with God is assured through the work He finished on the cross. While we will never be completely untethered here on earth, we can use our free will to choose to be God-centered. We can drink deeply of His word where we find His promises and are guided by His wisdom. Each day we can pray to choose belief and trust in Him regardless of circumstances. And each day we can look heavenward and anticipate our complete transformation that will be accomplished when Jesus returns.
